Let’s talk about ‘Zeno’s Paradoxes,’ specifically the one where Achilles races a tortoise and can never catch up because every time he reaches where the tortoise was, the tortoise has moved a little bit further. It’s like saying no matter how fast Achilles runs, he’ll always be behind the tortoise. Classic Greek conundrum!

So I’m at the gym, on the treadmill, and I’m running my heart out. I see the timer ticking down, and I think, ‘Am I like Achilles? Am I running faster and faster, but never really getting any closer to my fitness goals?’

I look at the person next to me, who’s effortlessly jogging along, and I’m like, ‘They must be the tortoise in this scenario. No matter how much I run, they’ll always be in front of me, and I’ll forever be trying to catch up!’

Then the treadmill beeps and I’m done with my workout. I step off, feeling like I’ve just finished a race against a tortoise that never existed. And I think, ‘If Zeno was right, then I’ve just been running in place, sweating for nothing!’

So I decide to treat myself to a smoothie and tell myself, ‘Even if Zeno’s paradox means I’ll never quite reach my fitness goals, at least I’ve got a delicious smoothie and a good story about Greek philosophy to tell.’

Next time you’re feeling like you’re stuck in an endless loop or racing a tortoise, just remember: Sometimes the journey is just as important as the destination, and a little reward like a smoothie can make all the running worthwhile!
